Company Safety Policies Overview
Safety First Agreement
F&S Frame and Trim’s application for employment declares that we have a “Safety First” policy. Our “Safety First” policy consists of thirteen safety points to comply with during work activities. Every applicant is required to read each safety point within the policy and initial next to each safety point within the policy to confirm acknowledgement. Safety is proven to be our top priority and it begins before employment is extended.
Drug Free Workplace
F&S Frame and Trim is a drug free workplace and we are very proud of that. Having a safe, productive and efficient workplace provides F & S Frame and Trim and its customers with a product, environment and culture that has safety and quality at its core.
Orientation for New Hires
F&S Frame and Trim’s new hire orientation provides an introduction to our Safety Management System. Company policy on safety was introduced to all employees at our annual company-wide safety meeting and was video recorded for future employees. Our safety video library consists of:
1 ½ hour video on safety |
1 ½ hour video on company policies and procedures |
40 minute video on the drug free workplace guidelines |
A printed copy of the Employee Handbook and Safety Management System reference guide are given to employees during orientation to follow along with while watching the videos. These printed copies will also serve as an approved safety reference in the future while preforming work activities in the field.
During the annual company-wide safety meeting, David Creamer, with Creamer Consultants (independent safety consultant), came in and spoke about all aspects of safety with regards to the work that we perform for 3 hours. Nick Mirowsky with Total Compliance Network, and Tom Burgess with The Hilb Group (F&S’ insurance agent) were present at the meeting for 1 hour and explained the details behind the DFWP and answered any questions. The entire day was videotaped and subsequently edited down to highlight each area’s specific viewpoints and is now incorporated into our orientation.
Open Door Policy
All F&S Frame and Trim employees are encouraged to communicate with management at any time if they feel they have witnessed unsafe work practices or if they have been asked to perform their job in an unsafe manner. Management has implemented safety controls to provide an environment and culture that promotes communication and safety. All F&S Frame and Trim employees are aware they can communicate without fear of retaliation by another employee or management.
Weekly Safety Meetings
Each week, our site supervisors hold a safety meeting on our jobsites. Each supervisor has a binder that they use so that they all administer the same topic at each weekly meeting. The reason for this is if an employee switches crews, he/she is not subject to the same topic that another supervisor administered previously.
Equipment Check/Vehicle Maintenance
Each week, our site supervisors are required to check all of their equipment (forklifts, compressors, ladders, scaffolding, rigging, etc) to ensure everything is in good working condition and operating safely.
They also have a 21 point inspection for their work truck that they are required to do to ensure it is in good working condition and operating safely as well.
Monthly Safety Management Meetings
Each month management holds meetings with the foreman at a non- jobsite location to discuss and review topics related to the F & S Frame and Trim Safety Management System. Topics to be discussed include, but are not limited to:
Injuries: How did it happen? What could have been done to prevent it? What are we doing to prevent future occurrences? |
Changes in safety policies |
Administer safety training. Our safety training is a focused look at a specific topic (ladder safety, fall protection, equipment operation, etc.) which also includes literature from OSHA and other reputable safety organizations highlighting the topic(s) of that month. The foreman will then provide on the jobsite training with their crews about the particular topic(s) discussed and will also provide printed materials to educate the crew. |
OSHA Training
F&S Frame and Trim highly encourages all field personnel to obtain OSHA 10 training. Any employee who obtains OSHA 10 training while employed by F&S Frame and Trim will be fully reimbursed by the Company.
Company Wide Safety Meetings
Periodically, F&S Frame and Trim will gather the entire company for a review of the Safety-First policy and the Safety Management System. Participation is mandatory for all employees.
Equipment Certifications
These training events are held at either our shop or on a jobsite and all costs are paid for by F&S Frame and Trim. Participation for any field personnel operating equipment is required.
Equipment Check/Vehicle Maintenance
F&S Frame and Trim’s foreman are required to check all their equipment (forklifts, compressors, ladders, scaffolding, rigging, etc.) daily to ensure everything is in good working condition and operating safely.
F&S Frame and Trim’s foreman have a 21-point inspection for their work truck that they are required to perform to ensure their vehicle is in good working condition and operating safely.
Fall Protection/Erection Plans
In every Start Package (paperwork that includes scope of work, # of man hours, estimate report, list of all materials, truss info, etc.), F&S Frame and Trim includes a site-specific fall protection/erection plan. This plan is formulated by management during a meeting prior to the job commencing.
Nearest Medical Facility to the Jobsite
Also, in the Start Package, there is a map along with contact information for the nearest medical facility in the case of an accident. The route from the jobsite to the medical facility is highlighted on the map. The foreman is made aware of this prior to the job starting.
